The Day the Earth Shook
Tragedy in south Asia. The death toll is high and is rising. After the deaths that occur from disease, I wouldn't be surprised if the total is 100,000. Truly tragic.
The rotation of the earth has actually be impacted by this event. The map of south Asia is different today than it was just days ago.
The UN seems to think we're stingy...that we should even be taxed so that we can give even more than we already give. The official has backed off from the original statements (link).
I think Americans are very generous. And I think Americans resent the UN suggesting otherwise...this coming from an organization that is in the middle of having to defend itself against charges of corruption the likes of which the world had never seen.
If Americans want to give, I think they should give. But I don't care what the UN thinks of the amount that we give (or don't give).

Merry Wintertime!
Christmas under fire (Krauthammer).
Even locally, this thing in Plano. Simply ridiculous (link). Plano ISD now says that no one should have been concerned...all along, they were going to let kids celebrate Christmas at their 'Winter Break' parties. The Judge didn't feel that was true and that's why he issued the temporary restraining order against the PISD (love that abbreviation)...and the Justice Department is clearly concerned about potential violations of students' rights.
Put kindly, the PISD isn't being fully honest about this. Put more directly, -- well, you can finish that sentence.
Last year when this first came up, I went on the air and talked about it and frankly took a little heat from some people who assured me there are great people on the PISD school board...the superintendent...etc. I waited a year...and here we are again.
I don't have any reason to believe that these people that I am told are good people....people of faith....no reason to believe they are not those things. But, it's time to step up. Being good and all those things really doesn't mean anything if you don't step up when you're needed.
Being good quietly means little. Being brave when you are needed is what matters. Otherwise why does it matter that 'good' people are in those positions?

Virgin Birth? How could this many people believe this?
A Newsweek poll of 1,009 adults found that 79 percent believe in the virgin birth of Jesus. The poll also found 67 percent affirm as historically accurate the entire Christmas story and 82 percent believe Jesus Christ is God and/or the Son of God. Along a different track of questions, 62 percent said they would prefer public schools teach creation science alongside evolutionary theory; 43 percent would approve the replacement of evolutionary theory with creation science.
Biased? Who cares?
Media bias I think is beyond dispute (link). But does it matter? If it's known and believed, does it really matter that the media is biased?
Blogger types and alternative media people will say that all the new ways of getting information is the reason for the downturn in ratings at (for lack of a better phrase) traditional media outlets.
I might even argue that the more obviously biased the networks are the better. When the nets have an objective report, it now tends to be discounted.
The Rathergate thing at CBS was the last gasp for the blatant bias at the nets. And it failed. They were caught and the upcoming report I believe will be scathing in its conclusion.
What many have thought was the case for many years has now been proved true. Everyone knows it. And there are other and sometimes better ways to get information. So is the power of the bias what it used to be?
