Read Kerry's Testimony

In case you missed the replay of John Kerry's testimony from 1971 (cspan last night), here's the transcript of the testimony.

I remember a caller once in speaking of a former president when asked about lying under oath. She said, 'If he lied, it doesn't matter to me.'

I don't know why that came to mind after reading John Kerry's testimony because his testimony might be 100% true. In which case he would be an admitted war criminal.

Seems like the Dems might have a challenge.

But only if it matters to Americans.

Cleland Visits the Ranch

Max Cleland visited the President's ranch (uninvited) to deliver a letter on behalf of the Kerry Campaign today.

This is obviously an effort to embarrass the president. No matter what Bush does it won't be enough.

Who is really keeping this issue alive in order to keep from talking about the issues? I don't think it's President Bush.

Kerry on lying

John Kerry today in a speech talked about what he calls President Bush's tactics of fear and smear.

And then he said something that I found interesting. He said, "If you tell a lie long enough, people could begin believing it's the truth."

I don't think he meant it this way, but one could imagine that rather than being critical of the president, John Kerry was simply giving advice on lying.

Why They Hate Bush

McGreevey Resigns...McGreevey is Gay

I don't know which is the story...maybe they both are.

This is pre-emptive on the part of McGreevey. The bad stuff is about to come out in the sexual harrassment lawsuit that has been filed against him.

Maybe someone will tell me they are mad at McGreevey because he passed as hetero when he really 'knew the truth' about himself. That it's shameful for gay americans to pretend it's not true for the purpose of their careers.

More likely someone will tell me how what James McGreevey has done is not his fault, but is the fault of the heterosexual, conservative or religious community. That if there had been same-sex marriage then McGreevey would've been free to 'be who he is' and none of this would have happened.

Yeah, I think it's probably the latter.

A More Sensitive War?

John Kerry and Dick Cheney are going at it.

"America has been in too many wars for any of our wishes, but not a one of them was won by being sensitive," Cheney said. "President Lincoln and General Grant did not wage sensitive warfare, nor did President Roosevelt, nor Generals Eisenhower and MacArthur." (story)

To be sure, there is a bit of distorting of what the other side says (both sides...like when the president misrepresented John Kerry's war vote comment), but it does bring out what we've talked about before...that John Kerry has a fundamental misunderstanding of the world we live in and the war on terror.

That's the main reason that Kerry is scary.

Major Assassination Plot in the Works?

The Washington Times reports that "The goal of the next attack is twofold: to damage the U.S. economy and to undermine the U.S. election," the official said. "The view of al Qaeda is 'anybody but Bush.' " (Gertz)

Interestingly, that's the same perspective that most Democrats have.

I am not saying that Democrats are terrorists. Democrats are just Americans with a different world view from mine.

But doesn't it tell you something if the greatest threat to America and our way of life is interested in President Bush not being re-elected?

Kerry and his vote on the war

John Kerry says that he would have voted for the President to have the authority to go to war. At long last a direct answer.

Interestingly, 'he would have voted for the congressional resolution authorizing force against Iraq even if he had known then no weapons of mass destruction would be found.'

That seems like an odd thing to say. Doesn't that take away a mighty tool from the Democratic Party in their fight against Bush and the war? Haven't they been beating that drum?

If Kerry would've vote the way he did even if he'd had knowledge of no WMD, how can Democrats continue to beat that drum?

It's a Question of World View

Victor Davis Hansen writes about it. We've talked about it.

John Kerry in his speech at the DNC showed his nuance and brilliance when he said, "Let's not forget what we did in the 1990s. . . . We just need to believe in ourselves and we can do it again."

That is truly a person living in a world inside his head. Like Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz' clutching Toto, closing her eyes, clicking her heels three times and saying, 'There's no place like home...There's no place like home.'

Just say it enough and you make it so. Not true.

We can fight the enemy over here on their terms and in their timing (pre 9/11 world view: Kerry) or fight them over there on our terms and our timing (post 9/11 word view: Bush).

It all comes down to world view.

Alan Keyes to Run for Illinois Senate seat

This is potentially good for conservatives and Republicans, but I think Alan Keyes running for the Senate seat in Illinois is bad.

I thought it was bad when non- (and never-) resident Hillary ran for the Senate seat in New York. And I think this is a bad idea, too. Even if I would rather a Republican win that seat than a Democrat.

What will be the political impact if we're attacked?

The New York Times and the Washington Post were very quick after the terror alert over the weekend to have front page, above-the-fold stories claiming that the alert was unwarranted because the information was old. Some data was old, but plans take time...and we know the enemy is patient (hit the WTC towers in '93 unsuccessfully and then waited and planned a full 8 years until they did it again).

Today, news orgs had to admit that the information being old doesn't mean it's unimportant and worthy of discounting it.

What happens if we're hit again before the election? What if they're successful at hitting us 60 days or less from the election?

What would be the political impact?

Protestors shout '4 More Years' and John Kerry's head explodes: 'I want to thank George Bush for sending the goons here tonight to excite us to do a little more work'...(tolerant? open? Temperament to be Commander and Chief?)

Subway insults Americans to sell food

What is the responsibility of an American company to act 'American'....whole bunch of problems with that question....what is an American company....what is acting American?

But...it's seems that Subway can do better than this.

No Convention Bounce

What happened to that bounce? So no bounce with the naming of Edwards. No bounce from the convention. You have to go back to 1972 to find such a situation as the one Democrats find themselves in.

Democrats did a decent job of trying to tamp down expectations of any bounce...but I think this is worse than they imagined.

New Terror Alert - Mexico Border

Well what do you know. What we have talked about several times --- that a soft border with Mexico is a terror threat...that a weak border anywhere can be exploited by our enemies(usually prompting a charge of racism because 'mexicans had nothing to do with 9/11') --- is now the reason for the new terror alert: "Law enforcement officials say that Al Qaeda planned to send terrorists across the Mexican border in to the United States to conduct suicide attacks..."

As we have said repeatedly, this is not an issue about Mexicans...not an issue about Canadians...not an issue about Cubans...it's an issue about a border that is not secure. If our borders are not secure, we are not secure.

Terrorists used our openness against us...now they seek to use our political correctness. We have to get over this way of thinking. We have to see border issues without the passion of our race or ethnicity.
