Will the President Address the Nation to Protect Marriage?

The President took to the airwaves Monday night from the Oval Office to use the bully pulpit to push his Amnesty/Guest Worker proposal...will he give the same attention to protecting marriage? Don't hold your breath. (more)

And it's laughable to hear the First Lady say that the issue should not be used for political gain. That is precisely, apparently, what her husband did for 10 months while running to be re-elected. (more) From his address from the Roosevelt Room at the White House on February 24, 2004 when we said on the air 'I guess the campaign for re-election has begun' (transcript) to his last campaign speech at Moody Coliseum on the SMU Campus the night before the election (transcript)...in speech after speech...the president called for a constitutional amendment protecting marriage.

Then in his first press conference after re-election, the president laid out his real domestic agenda (transcript)...talked about spending political capital on the things that he told the American people he would pursue. Nowhere in there was anything about marriage protection. And there hasn't been anything since.

To hear the First Lady say what she said on Fox News Sunday signals what many have feared: the president said during the campaign what he needed to say about protecting marriage for political gain and then forgot about it and forgot about us.

What the Minute Men are doing is assisting the Border Patrol. Where they are, the Border Patrol doesn't need to have manpower.

If the goal of the Border Patrol is to secure the border (separate issue from how to deal with illegal immigration), how can this be anything but dispiriting.

I have heard it said several times lately that we will not get serious about this issue until we are attacked again. At first I dismissed this as a bit of hyperbole. The more I have seen and the longer time goes on with these kinds of stories, the more I, regrettably, agree.

If that is true...and that's a big IF...but if that is true...and it certainly is true that the more that time goes by, the more illegals (some of whom could certainly be bad guys...even terrorists) enter our country, what will be the risk of a catastrophic event? It seems it might be significant.

If you read the article it becomes clear that we are not serious about securing our border with Mexico and that Mexico wields weight that no foreign government should with an issue so important to our sovereign country.

Name dropping without naming names

ok, i know how this sounds, but give me a second.

for the last four days i have been in DC and during that time we met with and talked to ______, _______, ________, and (believe it or not) got an hour with _____________. i must tell you it was quite enlightening and sometimes encouraging. hearing ____________ describe the lay of the land was fascinating.

those names, as impressive as they are, were not the only people we met with. the entire list of blanks would make your head spin.

all that to say (or not say) that the '06 midterm election is going to be very interesting...and '08 could just be WILD.

will dems investigate and ultimately pursue impeachment against W if they gain control of the House, Senate, and committees in '06? will hillary run in '08? can she win? who will be the '08 GOP candidate? who should it be? what is the president giong to do ultimately with the immgration issue? will Karl Rove be indicted? what impact will that have, if any, on the president's ability to get anything done in the last two years of this administration?

a weekend of listening and taking notes...sometimes standing at attention and sometimes standing in awe...reminded also of the greatness of our country and how it isn't tied to politics or party...it is the obligation for the party (any of them) to identify with the greatness of the country. the party that best does that has the chance to earn the power (responsibility) to govern. i was also reminded how important it is to participate...to vote...to write...to call...

the party shouldn't make the country, the country should make the party.
