Mourning in America

We knew it was going to happen...why does it still take us by surprise? I was saddened to learn of the very poor health yesterday morning of Ronald Reagan.

I went to see my boys play their baseball game...went about the day...but there was a part of me that waited for and dreaded the news that I believed would come.

When we sat down to eat, we prayed for the safety of our current president...and comfort for the family of the 40th president.

And it appears (at least for a moment) that we are not alone in having good things to say about President Reagan.

It's amazing all the people wanting to claim their admiration for the former president...weren't these the same people who championed the CBS mini-series maligning the good name of Ronald Reagan just 6 months ago?

And aren't these the same people who want us to believe that all societies are the same...none is superior...and yet they celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Normandy invasion.

President Reagan in his 1984 address at Pointe du Hoc for the 40th anniversary of D-Day reminded us that there are things worth fighting for and worth dying for. That freedom and democracy are worth dying for.

The same elites who appear to celebrate the sacrifices of these patriots who risked (and many paid with) their lives, are the people who suggest that America is no better than other countries...how wrong it is for us to even suggest superiority.

If they believe that freedom and democracy are not superior, wouldn't the people who die for a lie be reasonably by them called 'fools' and not heroes?

Such is the complicated world of the double-minded man.
